Poster Competition for Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month 2011 event in Newport
By Isaac Blake
Building on the success of the second celebrations held last year in Wales, even more events are planned for this June. The main GRTHM 2011 event (Thursday 30th June 2011, from 10.00am at the Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre in Newport) is co-ordinated by the Romani Cultural and Arts Company with partners including Newport and Cardiff City Councils and Torfaen CBC.
This free event is open to all, public and schools alike – all are welcome.
As has become the practice in Wales we are looking to children from across the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller, Gorger and Country-folk communities to help us raise awareness of the event. Children from primary schools across Cardiff, Newport and Torfaen are being encouraged to take part in a ‘Design a Poster’ competition to be judged at Greenway Primary School in Cardiff in early April by a panel including Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas (Presiding Officer of the Welsh Assembly) and Theresa Davies from the DCELLS Traveller Education Unit.
The winner and runners up of the competitions will have their contributions framed and announced at the event on the 30 June.
