Doncaster
Schools across Doncaster are taking part in the National poster design competition.
There are plans to run a number of workshops in schools and events in the community during June, which will encourage greater understanding of Gypsy, Roma and Traveller culture. Professional artist Delaine Le Bas and professional Storyteller Richard O'Neill will be taking part.
The project will bring Gypsy, Roma and Traveller artists to Doncaster to work with school children on the creation of a performance installation. This will combine elements of storytelling, visual images and music displayed in a visually arresting environment, which will also act as an exhibition space for people to visit in June.
22nd May: Cooper Gallery, Barnsley, 1.00pm - 4.00pm

This play is based on the life story of Michael Collins and sets about exploding the myths often created to stigmatise the Traveller communities. True to collaborative theatre, this play is dedicated to Travellers and settled people who stand up to discrimination and prejudice.
Noeleen Dowling in The Irish Times writes:
"Entertaining, enriching and provocative - you could hardly ask for more from a show. These engaging true tales portray the discrimination and hardship routinely experienced by the Traveller community. They vividly evoke life in encampments and on halting sites - and some good times - from the mid - 1960s through the Human Rights for Travellers activism of the 1980s and the beginnings of self-development.
"Michael Collins is an effective presence and tells his stories with humour, passion and a total absence of self-pity. Excellent.'
